Fury versus Wilder talks under way
Negotiations for Tyson Fury to challenge WBC champion Deontay Wilder in December have begun, according to the British heavyweight.
Fury, 29, fights for the second time since beginning his comeback when he meets little-known Italian Francesco Pianeta at Belfast’s Windsor Park on August 18.
He has made little secret of his desire to fight either of the division’s world champions, Wilder and Anthony Joshua, and insists he and his promoter Frank Warren are ready to take advantage of the breakdown in negotiations for a Joshua-Wilder unification fight.
The 32-year-old Wilder’s desire for a high-profile opponent and his increased value in the context of a fight with Fury could make an agreement likelier and Fury said: “I can confirm that me and Deontay Wilder are in negotiations, very close to being done.”
Tiffoney’s Forest fire
Morton winger Scott Tiffoney is on trial with English Championship side Nottingham Forest after snubbing a new deal.
The 19-year-old, who made his debut for the Cappielow men two years ago and had a loan spell at Clyde before featuring in 37 games last season, was offered a new contract before the end of last season but is keen to find a new club. He has joined Forest for a trial period.
Fulham get Mitrovic
Fulham have signed Aleksandar Mitrovic on a permanent deal from Newcastle.
The Serbia striker has returned to Craven Cottage on a five-year contract for a fee which could rise to £27 million.
