Pair ar­rested fol­low­ing Poppy col­lec­tion tins raid Men al­leged to have bro­ken into store and taken char­ity cash

A smash and grab raid on a Peter­head shop saw thieves steal packed poppy tins just three days be­fore com­mu­ni­ties come to­gether to com­mem­o­rate the 100th an­niver­sary of Ar­mistice Day.

They broke into the WH Smith store in the town’s Marischal Street on Wed­nes­day night – ap­par­ently in search of high value ci­garettes. Res­i­dents in Tur­riff are be­ing urged to sign up for a new “on de­mand” minibus ser­vice.

The coun­cil-run pi­lot scheme will re­place the Stage­coach Blue­bird Town and Cir­cu­lar 257/258 ser­vice later this month.

Tur­riff Town and Cir­cu­lar A2B Dial-a-Bus route be­gins on Mon­day, Novem­ber 19 and is free to use.

It will op­er­ate on de­mand, with pas­sen­gers book­ing jour­neys by phone or email.

Book­ings can be made up to one week in ad­vance, or two weeks in ad­vance for trans­port to med­i­cal ap­point­ments.
