May’ s visit clashes with trade claims

SIR, – Ac­cord­ing to the web­site of the leather com­pany that Theresa May vis­ited in Bridge of Weir, it op­er­ates one of the largest tan­ner­ies in Europe and ex­ports to more than 60 coun­tries.

I’m there­fore some­what at a loss as to why we are be­ing led to be­lieve in the scream­ing ne­ces­sity of set­ting up the UK’s own trade deals when self-ev­i­dently Scot­tish and UK com­pa­nies are al­ready quite ca­pa­ble of trad­ing with any other com­pany any­where on the planet.

Per­haps Mrs May should have cho­sen a dif­fer­ent com­pany in which to pro­mote her Brexit deal, given the ex­pe­ri­ence of this one
