“It takes us to many places that have meant a lot to me”

Sir Elton John is the first music superstar to be confirmed to perform at the new exhibition centre in Aberdeen.

The 71-year-old will be playing at The Events Complex Aberdeen (TECA) on November 20 and 21 2020, the biggest act to be confirmed at the venue so far.

The site will be home to a “world class” 12,500-capacity arena when it opens next year.

Aberdeen’s TECA and Glasgow’s SSE Hydro are the only two Scottish locations selected for the music icon’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Sir Elton said it will be “emotional” when he takes to the stage.

He said: “The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will take us to many places that have meant a lot to me over the last 50 years, but these UK shows will be incredibly special.

“The UK is home, and where my heart will always be.

“To celebrate some of the incredible moments we’ve shared with my British fans over the years will be wonderful.

“These homecoming shows will be very emotional, and a lot of fun.”

The star, known for a whole host of hits including I’m Still Standing, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Candle In The Wind and Your Song will play over the course of two nights.

The £333million TECA venue will be open by next September at the “very latest,” and John is the second big name to be added to its listings.

ComedianRussell Howard will be among the first to take to its stage when he performs as part of his Respite Tour in September 2019.

TECA and AECC managing director Nick Waight said: “It’s great to get the ball rolling with our first comedian announced to play TECA next year, and especially one we know is always a particular favourite with the northeast audience.

“With less than a year to go until the opening of TECA, we’ve got some exciting bookings in the diary and we look forward to sharing details of these soon.”

Fans may still be thinking it’s going to be a long, long time until singing sensation Elton John takes to the stage.

However, tickets can be booked soon – on November 16.

Pre-sale tickets can also be ordered on Tuesday from 10am.
