Artful way of raising funds

The Press and Journal (North-East) - - NEWS -

A pop-up art festival featuring hundreds of original works from both local and nationally acclaimed artists will return to Aberdeen next week to raise cash for a cancer charity.

The Art Extravaganza event at the Chester Hotel on Queen’s Road will take place from November 13 to 14.

All proceeds from sales of the exclusive pieces on display will be going to Maggie’s, an organisation that supports cancer patients and their families.

The first Art Extravaganza in 2016 raised more than £100,000 for the Aberdeen centre, which is in the grounds of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and this year the organisers hope to generate even more cash for their cause.

Art lovers will be given the chance to snap up creations from the likes of Iain Faulkner, Stephen Conroy, Jack Morrocco and Carol Scouller.

Other artists whose originals will be on sale include Hazel McAllister, Alison Davidson, Sandie Youngson and Mary Louise Butterworth.

The wide range of still lifes, abstracts, landscapes, figurative works and more will have price tags from £60 to £15,000.

David Reid, ambassador for Maggie’s Aberdeen, was instrumental in setting up the inaugural event along with Patricia Straughen.

He is hopeful that this year’s festival will be an even greater success.

Mr Reid said: “We are extremely excited to have the Art Extravaganza open its doors once again this year.

“The event is a great opportunity for the public to admire and purchase art from some of the most renowned artists in the UK – at a wide range of prices and to suit many different tastes.

“And with Maggie’s benefiting from each and every purchase, what could be better?

“The Chester Hotel is such a perfect venue to beautifully showcase more than 200 pieces of art, and we can’t thank Graham and Gillian Wood enough for their support.”

Paula Cormack, fundraising manager for Maggie’s Aberdeen, added: “We are thrilled to receive the continued support from Patricia and David in their endeavour to bring some of the top contemporary artists in the UK to Aberdeen for the Art Extravaganza.”

Entry to the pop-up festival is free.
