Spice Girls’ Glasto talks

The Spice Girls are in talks with Glas­ton­bury or­gan­is­ers over play­ing at the fes­ti­val, it has been re­ported.

The group last month an­nounced they were re­unit­ing, al­beit with­out Posh Spice, Vic­to­ria Beck­ham.

In­stead, Melanie Brown, above, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Horner and Emma Bun­ton will per­form across the UK next sum­mer.

Academy for string play­ers

The Scot­tish Cham­ber Orches­tra and St Mary’s Mu­sic School have launched a new part­ner­ship pro­gramme to help young string play­ers de­velop their skills.

The free SCO String Academy is open to young mu­si­cians who play vi­o­lin, vi­ola, cello or dou­ble bass, and have reached Grade 6+.

Revo­lu­tion in surgery

De­vel­op­ments in ro­bot­ics and DNA cod­ing will rev­o­lu­tionise surgery for mil­lions of pa­tients, an in­de­pen­dent com­mis­sion pre­dicts.

The Com­mis­sion on the Fu­ture of Surgery said ad­vances in ge­nomics could mean ma­jor can­cer op­er­a­tions be­come re­dun­dant.
