Fugi­tive faces life sen­tence

Italy has praised Bo­livia over the cap­ture of fugi­tive com­mu­nist mil­i­tant Ce­sare Bat­tisti, pic­tured. Of­fi­cials in Rome vowed that he will “fin­ish his days in prison” to serve murder con­vic­tions dat­ing from 1990.

The Ital­ian am­bas­sador to Brazil, An­to­nio Bernar­dini, tweeted: “Bat­tisti has been cap­tured. Democracy is stronger than ter­ror­ism.”

Skiers killed in avalanche

Three Ger­man skiers have been killed in an avalanche in Aus­tria – and a fourth is miss­ing, po­lice said yes­ter­day as snow­fall set in again in the north­ern Alps.

The bod­ies of the men – aged 57, 36 and 32 – were re­cov­ered on Satur­day evening near the ski re­sort of Lech, a few hours af­ter the wife of one of the skiers re­ported them miss­ing.

Is­rael lo­cates ‘fi­nal’ tun­nel

Is­raeli troops have dis­cov­ered the sixth and fi­nal tun­nel dug by Hezbol­lah mil­i­tants for cross-bor­der at­tacks, of­fi­cials said.

The fi­nal tun­nel ran hun­dreds of me­tres from un­der a Le­banese home and deep into Is­raeli ter­ri­tory, said a mil­i­tary spokesman.
