Midfielder is in line for improved contract

The Press and Journal (North-East) - - THESCORE -

Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson is set to be rewarded for his impressive start to life at Pittodrie with an improved contract.

A tribunal declared the Dons were due to pay Hamilton Accies £238,000 in compensation for Ferguson but the 19-yearold has already proved value for money by scoring some pivotal goals for the Dons, including the winning goal against Rangers in the semi-final of the Betfred Cup Hampden.

McInnes says he will meet the player’s representatives when the Dons return from Dubai.

The Dons manager said: “He’s a diamond, isn’t he?

“I have spoken with his agent and told him we’ll get together when we get back about recognition for his place in the squad.

“The intention is for him to be our player for the next two or three years. at

“I really like him. He’s so unassuming and levelheaded.

“He’s similar to Scott McKenna in terms of temperament and personality. He just comes in and gets on with the job and is very respectful.

“He’s just a brilliant boy to work with.”

The Dons, meanwhile, have been linked with a move to bring Greg Stewart back to Pittodrie.

The 28-year-old was recalled from his loan spell at Kilmarnock by parent club Birmingham City.

Stewart is in the final six months of his contract at St Andrews and the Blues could look to sell him in a bid to recoup the £400,000 they paid Dundee for him three years ago.

The Dons have also not given up hope of bringing Derby County defender Max Lowe back to the club for the second half of the campaign.

Lowe started for Derby in their 2-0 defeat by Leeds United in the English Championship on Friday.

The 21-year-old made 19 appearances for the Dons during the first half of the season.

“He just comes in and gets on with the job and is very respectful”

experiences where they don’t get trips to Dubai greatly appreciate the Aberdeen set-up, and value the football club all the more
