Bad day for Ellon as city rivals win out
While Strathmore moved 15 points clear at the top of Caley Division 1 by beating Glenrothes 35-0, a much closer affair was being fought at Groats Road in Aberdeen where Aberdeen Wanderers shocked rivals Ellon.
The 37-25 win for the home side took them out of the relegation area, helped by the defeat of Alloa, thrashed 88-7 at Dunfermline.
Ellon head coach Craig Parslow said: “It was a thoroughly bad day for us, even our under 18s were beaten by our Aberdeen rivals.”
The home try scorers were Andrew Fisch, Ruraig Lauchan, Fraser Christie and Craig Strachan, while the Ellon touchdowns were attributed to Stuart Ovall (2), Archie Andrade, and Lachlan Bridgeford.
In Caley 2 North, Garioch’s game at Kellands Park with Ross Sutherland was called off due to illness in the Invergordon camp.
Aberdeen Grammar 2nds won 34-13 at RAF Lossie while Banff lost 33-5 to North Police Scotland.
In Caley 3 North, leaders Aberdeenshire extended their lead, beating Gordonians 2nds 55-8, while second placed Aberdeen University were shocked by Kinloss Eagles in a 42-36 thriller.
Peterhead are two points from winning Caley 4 North, after their 50-5 win at home to Inverness Craig Dunain after Dyce lost 57-7 to Moray 2nds.
