Bad day for El­lon as city ri­vals win out

While Strath­more moved 15 points clear at the top of Ca­ley Divi­sion 1 by beat­ing Glen­rothes 35-0, a much closer af­fair was be­ing fought at Groats Road in Aberdeen where Aberdeen Wan­der­ers shocked ri­vals El­lon.

The 37-25 win for the home side took them out of the rel­e­ga­tion area, helped by the de­feat of Al­loa, thrashed 88-7 at Dun­fermline.

El­lon head coach Craig Parslow said: “It was a thor­oughly bad day for us, even our un­der 18s were beaten by our Aberdeen ri­vals.”

The home try scor­ers were An­drew Fisch, Ru­raig Lauchan, Fraser Christie and Craig Stra­chan, while the El­lon touch­downs were at­trib­uted to Stu­art Ovall (2), Archie An­drade, and Lach­lan Bridge­ford.

In Ca­ley 2 North, Gar­i­och’s game at Kel­lands Park with Ross Suther­land was called off due to ill­ness in the In­ver­gor­don camp.

Aberdeen Gram­mar 2nds won 34-13 at RAF Lossie while Banff lost 33-5 to North Po­lice Scot­land.

In Ca­ley 3 North, lead­ers Aberdeen­shire ex­tended their lead, beat­ing Gor­do­nians 2nds 55-8, while sec­ond placed Aberdeen Univer­sity were shocked by Kin­loss Ea­gles in a 42-36 thriller.

Peter­head are two points from win­ning Ca­ley 4 North, af­ter their 50-5 win at home to In­ver­ness Craig Du­nain af­ter Dyce lost 57-7 to Mo­ray 2nds.
