Frankie backs Enable
FRANKIE Dettori says he’s upbeat about Enable’s chances of winning back-to-back Prix de l’Arc de Triomphes next month.
John Gosden’s filly has hardly raced this season having suffered a setback in April, eventually returning to action earlier this month when emerging victorious at Kempton.
The four-year-old looked classy in her triumph in the September Stakes but faces a massive step up in class when she crosses the English Channel and heads to Longchamp on October 7.
Having comfortably won last year’s running of the Classic, Enable is the favourite among most bookmakers but Sea Of Class is likely to possess a serious threat.
Dettori has plenty of respect for William Haggas’ filly but has faith Enable can pull out a big performance to defend her Arc title.
He said: “Before her comeback at Kempton, I rode most of her work for the last month. We had such a dry summer so we weren’t able to gallop her on the grass. We went on the Polytrack instead over no more than seven furlongs to a mile.
“Despite doing some work and her weight being more or less her racing weight, until you try a mile and a half, you can never be sure.”
He added: “Looking at the trials, the Irish Champion Stakes and so forth, the one I fear the most is William Haggas’ filly Sea Of Class. She’s a Classic winner and was very impressive at York. She will be very dangerous.”
