Aspell on a liquid diet for the New Year
LEIGHTON ASPELL is facing another spell on the sidelines after surgery to repair injuries to his face sustained in a fall at Cheltenham earlier this month.
The luckless jockey has been surviving on liquids since plates were inserted in both cheek bones and an eye socket that were damaged when his mount Skewiff was hampered and came down in a melee. Aspell, who has his own fan club, was out for four months in the summer with a fractured vertebrae in his neck. He remains upbeat and is already counting down the days before he can ride again.
