CRACKLING ‘bottle’ 2/1 on New Year’s Eve completed a notable Lingfield double for Martyn Meade. And it brought back memories…

Puerile public school humour of giving nicknames like Lord Snooty, Pouting Heiress, Saucy Minx, The Noble Lord and Greatest Jockey added to the banter on Channel 4 Racing.

None of those names became routine until the victim acquiesced.

One failing was ‘Crackling’ for presenter Lesley Graham.

A viewer wrote referring to her as ‘Crackling’ but demure Lesley requested we refrained, which of course we did.

When Crackling runs again I’ll fondly remember our popular colleague Lesley.
