RECORD-breaking trainer Mark Johnston has scored a notable victory in his campaign to persuade Ascot to reverse their decision to introduce an earlier closing date for entries for the Queen’s Vase.

Pulling no punches in his Kingsley Klarion he explains: “We all know the only reason racecourses set early closing dates for races is to extract more money from owners.

“It is common practice, and was particularly wrong for the Queen’s Vase because April is too early to judge which young staying horses might be best suited to its demands. “Well done Ascot for recognising this and acting accordingly. Thank you for putting the interests of owners, racing and the future of the breed ahead of your own finances.”
