Class 66 derailed at Bromsgrove – Class 170 damaged

RAIL incident staff stand by DB Class 66 No. 66057, which was derailed at the end of a siding at Bromsgrove on March 23 after running through the buffer stops.

The loco had worked from

Bescot the previous evening to provide banking assistance for freight trains. However, the loco failed to stop and ended up foul of the main line and was struck passing a CrossCount­ry service.

The Class 170 suffered damage to the sides of all three vehicles, as was the far corner of the ‘66’ in the picture.

None of the crew or four passengers on the ‘170’ were injured, nor was the driver of the‘66’.

An RAIB investigat­ion has been opened into the incident.
