Northampton has other connection options to MML
OF THE three disused railway lines connecting Northampton with the Midland Main Line (Bedford featured in the April issue), add in Market Harborough plus a connection at Wellingborough, and surely the latter has the greatest potential at the lowest cost?
Not only is it the shortest (13 miles), it would also give Northampton a direct link to Corby and onwards to Manton Junction, where a new chord could connect onto the Peterborough line.
Journeys from Northampton to Midland Main Line destinations would be possible by one simple change at Wellingborough.
Funding constraints mean only one line from Northampton is likely to be reopened.
The Wellingborough route offers the best connectivity over the shortest distance, and deserves to be selected.
