‘PENDENNIS’ PREPARED FOR BOILER LIFT AT DIDCOT

- LEIGH DREW/GWS

GWR ‘Castle’ No. 4079 Pendennis Castle has been moved to the lifting shop at Didcot Railway Centre in preparation for a boiler lift as the overhaul of the Collett 4-6-0 enters the final stages.

The Great Western Society (GWS) loco is no stranger to the Didcot lifting shop, having been housed in the building during the 1960s when No. 4079 was owned by Sir William McAlpine and Lord John Gretton in the days before the GWS adopted the Didcot site as its base.
