Dublin tram derailed in lorry collision

-

LUAS Red Line tram No. 3001 was derailed and suffered significant front-end damage after colliding with a lorry in north Dublin on March 30.

The incident occurred at about 08.45 at the junction of Queen Street and Benburb Street in Smithfield.

Firefighters and paramedics attended the scene, with the driver of the tram taken to the Mater Hospital in Phibsborough with non-life threatening injuries.

None of the three passengers on board were injured.

As a result traffic had to be diverted via Blackhall Place, and Red Line services were suspended between Blackhorse and The Point.

This section of the line was closed completely from 16.30 to facilitate the tram’s removal.

As a result, LUAS tickets were being accepted by Dublin Bus during the disruption.
