Where is it?
Our pictorial quiz, for fun only
LAST month’s mystery picture (right) was of Workington station, on the Cumbrian Coast line. It was built by the London & North Western Railway after they took over the Whitehaven Junction and Workington & Cockermouth lines in 1866, and replaced the original station built by the Whitehaven Junction Railway.
The town did have two other stations: Workington Bridge (on the LNW route to Cockermouth) and Workington Central on the Cleator & Workington Jct Railway.
The town was hit by flooding in 2009, which washed away several road bridges, with Network Rail building and opening Workington North in six days.
There was a free shuttle to and from Maryport, which ran from November 30, 2009 until May 28, 2010.
Now can you identify this station (left)?
