SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY SETS OUT STALL FOR THE 2021 SEASON

-

APRIL 2 is the date on which the Severn Valley Railway hopes to reopen for the

2021 season, subject to the Government lifting lockdown restrictions by then.

The plans for the year build on the railway’s successful Covid-safe operation in 2020, with two departures from Kidderminster and one from Bridgnorth on most days.

The three trains – named the ‘Explorer’, ‘Flyer’ and ‘Adventurer’ – will all be steamhauled, with the ‘Explorer’ also serving Hampton Loade and Arley stations, reopening for the first time since March last year.

These stations will not open to the general public and no journeys will commence or end there, thereby giving ‘Explorer’ passengers exclusive access to them.

A limited number of special events are also included in the plans for the year, principally the Spring Steam Up gala in April (see separate story).

This will be followed by the

Spring Diesel Bash over four days from May 13, which will showcase the best of the SVR’s sizeable and popular diesel fleet.

Furthermore, fans of more modern traction will also welcome the return of the popular ‘Pioneer’ service, which will run diesel-hauled on selected dates throughout the year - see page 76.

Helen Smith, the railway’s general manager, said: “We’re really looking forward to our spring reopening and welcoming visitors back, in line with government restrictions. We’re particularly pleased to be able to offer two large events for our enthusiast visitors, who we know are keen to get back to the railway.

“It is very important to the SVR to be able to offer these events, as a thank-you to our loyal followers who have supported us throughout these trying times.”

Tickets for services in April, May and June can be booked online at www.svr.co.uk
