■ NEW Welsh Highland Railway carriage No. 2048 was launched into traffic on May 31 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Peter Campbell, who financed its constructi­on.

■ AMERTON Railway will steam five locos over July 17/18. Home-based Bagnall 0-4-0ST Isabel, Hunslet/Kerr Stuart 0-4-0ST ‘Wren’ Jennie,

Kerr Stuart ‘Wren’ 0-4-0ST Lorna Doone and Phil Mason’s Kerr Stuart 0-4-0T Diana will be joined by Graham Morris’ visiting Kerr Stuart 0-4-0ST ‘Wren’ Peter Pan. With Peter Pan now finished in Devon County Council (DCC) livery this will be the first time ex-DCC locos Lorna Doone and Peter Pan have steamed together in their original liveries for over 70 years.

■ TWO 1937-built 15in gauge ‘Dusseldorf’ bogie carriages have been acquired by Bressingha­m from Bure Valley Railway (BVR). Prior to arriving at the BVR in 2014, where they were used as non-operationa­l ‘picnic coaches’ at Aylesham, the vehicles had been at the Perrygrove Railway. They will now be returned to traffic.

■ PAUL Walkinshaw, treasurer of Lincolnshi­re Coast Light Railway Historic Vehicles Trust (LCLRHVT), died on May 7. Born in 1961, he became a Lincolnshi­re Coast Light Railway (LCLR) director in his 20s. He owned Cleethorpe­s Coast Light Railway-based replica Heywood loco Effie

(gifted to the line shortly prior to his death), Motor Rail Simplex 9264/1947 (donated to LCLRHVT) and was the driving force behind the 2015–2017 return to steam of LCLR Peckett 0-6-0ST Jurassic.
