Victorian canopies repaired
TWO Victorian station canopies on the Manchester-Wigan line have been repaired and restored by Network Rail as part of a £750,000 Great North Rail Project investment.
The canopies at Walkden and Swinton were built in 1890 and have been renovated over a fourmonth period, given structural repairs and a full repaint in Northern’s colours. Netting has also been installed under the canopy to prevent birds roosting. As part of improvements at Walkden, preparations for new lifts are being made under the Access for All scheme, with a projected completion date of 2024.
