Facelift for Froghall station
The Churnet Valley Railway (CVR) resumed operations on July 10, having not run since the second Covid-19 lockdown. Among the enhancements carried out is a facelift of Froghall station, improving its 1950s ambience. The interior has been redecorated and all lighting enhanced. The booking office and tearoom have been made more inviting places to sit and take in the atmosphere, with an increase in the number of railway-themed artefacts on display around the whole building from the CVR supporting charity, the North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) Ltd archive collection. The full length of platform one has been covered with Tarmac. The lamps have been rewired and a new security system installed. Provision has been made for the eventual restoration of the original North Staffordshire Railway water crane once at the platform’s north end. Trains are running Tuesdays, Wednesdays and weekends throughout the summer, with a dining service attached to all trains.
