Troon station reopens

- NETWORK RAIL

AFTER the devastating fire which destroyed the buildings on platform one at Troon station on July 17 (see RM August p9), the platform reopened to trains on July 30. The severity and heat from the fire, believed to have started in the ticket office, meant engineers had to inspect the beams carrying the OLE as well as making good any damage to the overhead supply. Supports have been installed to strengthen the beams.

The Grade B buildings were designed by James Miller who also designed the chalet-style buildings on the West Highland line, and the Railway Heritage Trust has pledged £500,000 towards the rebuilding costs. Two businesses were also lost in the fire.
