Official opening for new Rail Heritage Centre
DONCASTER’S new Rail Heritage Centre was officially opened on September 16. It includes Doncaster-built LNER ‘V2’ No. 4771 Green Arrow and ex-GNR ‘C1’ No. 251 loaned from the National Railway Museum, along with nameplates and other rail related memorabilia from the Doncaster Grammar School Railway Collection – many said to be on display for the first time.
The museum is part of the city’s Danum Gallery, Library and Museum on the site of the former Doncaster High School for Girls, and has the aim of showcasing the importance of the rail industry and the pivotal role played by Doncaster and its famous ‘Plant’ Works.
