Bury ‘Mickey Mouse’ gets attention

-

WORK has resumed on the restoration from Barry scrapyard condition of Bury Standard 4 Group’s BR Ivatt ‘Mogul’‘2MT’ 2-6-0 No. 46428 at the East Lancashire Railway (ELR). After being shot blasted, the boiler has been primed. Cleaning up of the driving wheel spokes is in progress. Work is also underway on rebuilding the buffer beam cross bar by cutting back the old metal ready for a new bar to be fitted. The loco’s principal components were due to move outside the group’s Bolton Street workshop in mid-September, including the boiler, driving wheels, pony truck wheels and the main new cab metalwork. The parts have hitherto been stored on wagons in Baron Street yard. At the same time, the frame was due to be moved inside the group’s workshop – all the Ivatt main parts will then be close to the workshop. The group’s BR ‘4MT’ 2-6-4T No.80097 continues to be a mainstay of ELR operations. Located on Bolton St station Platform 2, the Bury Standard 4 Group’s sales coach is normally open weekends.
