■ WEST Lancashire Light Railway’s (WLLR) Kerr Stuart ‘Joffre’ 0-6-0T+WT Joffre (2405/1915) hauled its final train on August 22, before withdrawal on expiry of its 10-year ticket. Hopefully it will return to service by 2023. Graham Fairhurst’s ex-Minas de Utrillas O&K 0-4-0WT 2378/1907 Utrillas hauled its last WLLR train on July 11, before relocating to Lancashire Mining Museum’s new passenger line on July 14 (RM, August).

■ CORRIS Railway has received additional deliveries of material to enable further constructi­on work on the embankment at Pont y Goedwig required for the line’s southern extension. The latest material became available from the project to construct a new road bridge over the River Dyfi at Machynllet­h, although the railway has to finance transporti­ng it to the embankment site.

■ HUNSLET 0-4-0DM 6619/1966 was relocated from Leighton Buzzard Railway to Apedale Valley Light Railway in midAugust. The 66hp mines loco powered by a Gardner 4LW engine was supplied new to Whittle colliery in Northumber­land, later being transferre­d to Ashington training centre before initially entering preservati­on at the South Tynedale Railway.

■ FAIRBOURNE Railway’s Curwen 2-6-2T Yeo, which missed the opening of the new season following discovery of serious wheelset issues, undertook a test run on August 20 after fitting of replacemen­t wheelsets, which cost £10,000.

■ HAMPTON & Kempton Waterworks Railway volunteers erected the metal framework of the new carriage shed on the ‘Hanworth Loop’ line in midAugust.
