Pathfinder plans to take ‘Hoovers’ to Tyneside

A NEW Pathfinder tour for December 4 has been announced. The ‘Christmas White Rose’ will be festively decorated and will take a pair of the popular Class 50 Alliance locomotive­s from Gloucester to York, Durham and Newcastle.

Announced on September 20, this tour begins in Cardiff at the early hour of 05.20 behind a Class 66, and will call at Newport, Bristol Parkway, Cam & Dursley, Gloucester, Cheltenham Spa, Worcesters­hire Parkway, Bromsgrove and Birmingham New Street.

Taking the route via Derby and Sheffield, York (c11.30) will be the first calling point for the Christmas Market, minster, National Railway Museum and other attraction­s.

After York, the train will call at Durham (cathedral and castle) before arriving at the final destinatio­n, Newcastle-upon Tyne at approx 12.50 where passengers will have just under four hours to sample the shops, visit the famous castle in the ‘V’ of two railway lines or ride on the 40-year-old Metro system before the old carriages are replaced by new Stadler trains.

Standard Class fares are £109 adult, £55 junior or £416 for a group of four; First Class £155 adult, £115 junior or £600 for a party of four; First Class Plus £179 adult, £139 junior and £696 for a party of four. Premier Dining is available at £289 adult, £249 junior and £1136 for a party of four.

Table for two seats are available at a supplement of £35 per person in first class, first class plus and premier dining. Premier dining will feature a seasonal menu. Bookings can be made online at www.pathfinder­tours.co.uk or by calling 01453 835414.
