£350,000 for Peterborough improvements
CAMBRIDGESHIRE & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) has confirmed it has made an award of £350,000 which will be used to create a strategic outline business case which will set out future aspirations for improvements in the Station Quarter site. £60,000 has already been committed by partners Network Rail, Peterborough City Council and LNER.
It will take around six months to prepare the business case, at which point a bid will be made to CPCA for funding under the Levelling Up Fund Round Two Transport scheme for up to
£50 million from Government to make the plans a reality.
Under the proposal, a Station Quarter will involve the creation of a gateway station to the east with enhanced retail and passenger facilities, dramatically improving the customer experience and people’s first impressions of the city.
The area around the station will include a pedestrianised route into the city centre, and also look at a new western station entrance with parking, aimed at reducing the congestion levels on Crescent Bridge.
