Purfleet station to be moved and rebuilt

-

A PROPOSAL for a £1bn regeneration of Purfleet, which will include a new railway station on a new site is gathering pace. Behind the scheme is Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited (PCRL), a joint venture between Urban Catalyst and Swan Housing Association in association with Thurrock Council, and around 2850 new homes and a new school are planned. Purfleet is sandwiched between HS1 and the River Thames and within the plan are proposals to improve public transport links and create a new town centre. There will also be a ‘media-village’, with film and TV studios capable of recording live television programs. Purfleet’s existing station is operated by c2c and situated on the ‘Tilbury loop’, and right next to a level crossing on a busy local road, and the proposal is to move the station north, but also replace the level crossing with a new road bridge on a revised alignment. While the new station is constructed closer to new housing, there will be a temporary ticket office. There are no dates yet, but with the first new homes planned for spring 2022 occupation, construction of the station is likely to be a threefour years away.
