Greater Anglia fare dodgers stung for £325,000

FARE dodgers who have been caught using Greater Anglia (GA) train services have paid nearly £325,000 in fines and court costs after a three-month campaign between May and July. Single Justice Procedure courts in Reading and Hastings dealt with a total of 1032 passengers, who admitted to travelling on GA trains without a ticket or any intention of buying a ticket. Fines exceed £190,000 and costs more than £132,000. As well as uniformed staff, GA has taken to using plain-clothes staff to detect fraudulent activity, particular­ly delay repay fraud rings.
