Four trains added to Tyne & Wear order
TYNE & Wear Metro operator Nexus has confirmed that four more trains have been added to its new Stadler fleet order, bringing the total to 46 five-car units.
It follows a successful Transforming Cities Fund bid last year by the North East Joint Transport Committee, from which £95m was allocated to Nexus for Metro Flow – a project to dual three sections of line between Pelaw and South Shields.
The funding will be split between the improvements and purchase of the additional trains, which will allow a more frequent service once the work is complete.
Manufacturing of the trains is underway with assembly of the first bodyshell expected by the end of the year.
