SOHAM REOPENS:

- AUBREY EVANS

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Mayor Dr Nik Johnson officially opened the new £18.6m railway station at Soham on December 13, five months ahead of the original timetable and 56 years after the last passenger train called at the town. The station is on the Cambridge-Ipswich route and is perhaps most known for the four railway workers caught up in the Soham Rail disaster on June 2, 1944. Relatives of the railway men were present to see a dedication unveiled. Pictured is No. 755403 calling at the station on the opening day with the 11.50 Peterborough to Ipswich.
