Great Orme loco

-

HOW interesting to hear mention of The Great Orme Miniature Railway (December issue) regarding Watford Miniature Railway’s new ‘old’ loco Henry. I remember visiting the summit complex in 1956 as a five-year-old train mad child, only to find what I still regard as a miniature locomotive with polished aluminium bodywork resembling the Triang Santa FE model in a semi-derelict hut (as per the attached postcard image). Why on top of the Great Orme, with no evidence of any trackwork? Having researched this in later years I still haven’t found much information on this railway. The ABC book on miniature railways gives both this railway and the Gwrych Castle, Abergele railway a mention. Both lines were run by the same operator. In one of the ABC books it shows a diesel outline loco similar to the one I saw, at Gwrych Castle called ‘Chieftain’. Could this be the same one? Harold Jones Llanfairfechan
