KESR ‘Gronk’ sent to Bitton for major attention

Class 08 visits Avon Valley for repairs to engine, generator and wiring.

THE Kent & East Sussex Railway’s Class 08 No. D4118 (08888) arrived at the Avon Valley Railway in September.

Valley Rail Preservati­on at Bitton has been commission­ed by the owners to strip down the loco for the engine and main generator to be removed for attention. Other work will include rewiring and replacing the remote-control equipment with standard electromec­hanical parts.

The main and auxiliary generators will be sent to a specialist company for refurbishi­ng. While out, the power unit will be checked over and where necessary, work undertaken. Concurrent­ly, all the air-pressure tanks will be removed, inspected, tested and certified.

The 0-6-0DE will return to the KESR on completion of the work.
