Rail Alphabet 2

-

A SIGN using the updated typeface Rail Alphabet 2 has been spotted on a bridge on the East West Rail route in Buckinghamshire

– is this a first? Network Rail announced in 2020 that it had commissioned the new typeface from Margaret Calvert, one of the original designers, and Henrik Kubel.

The new typeface includes lighter versions of the lettering, as well as italics for signage and pictograms for services and facilities that did not exist first time round in the 1960s. This photo by Phil Marsh was taken at Swanbourne Bridge on January 1.
