PRESERVATION

-

SADLY, neither of two ‘Twins’ survived into preservation. No. 10000 was withdrawn in 1963 and scrapped at Cashmores, Great Bridge (West Midlands), in January 1968; No. 10001 was withdrawn in 1968 and scrapped at Cox & Danks, North Acton (London), in February 1968.

However, the Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society is planning to re-create and operate a replica of

No. 10000 using an authentic EE 16SVT power unit, bogies from an EM2/Class 77 (pictured below), and frames from Class 58 No. 58022, but with more modern systems where appropriate – although the group says the finished loco will sound and perform like the original.

The estimated build time is 10 years, although much depends on income, and the society is always looking for help and donations. For more information see the website at lms10000.co.uk
