Appeal signals start of Wymondham upgrade

-

THE Mid-Norfolk Railway (MNR) has launched a £12,000 appeal to restore and equip the former Spooner Row Signalbox for use at an enhanced Wymondham Abbey station.

Gifted by NR nine years ago when it became redundant, it has taken till now for the ’box to be released. Funds are being sought to fund the transport, refurbishment and equipping of the ’box to enable work to commence on the reintroduction of signalling to this end of the line.

MNR chairman Charlie Robinson said: “The arrival and then commissioning of the ’box at Wymondham will mark the first stage in a long-held aspiration to create a new station for the railway at Wymondham. This appeal is designed to raise the funds to begin turning that aspiration into a reality.”

In addition to donations, sponsorship opportunities are available. Email Peter Singlehurst on Peter. Singlehurst@mnr.org.uk or visit www.midnorfolkrailway.co.uk for details. Donations can made to MNRPT at NatWest Bank, Sort Code: 60-07-47, Account Number: 52109003 using the reference ‘Wymondham SB Appeal’ or by cheque made payable to MNRPT to: MidNorfolk Railway Kimberley Appeal, The Railway Station, Station Road, Dereham, NR19 1DF.
