Nottingham trams honour local figures
NOTTINGHAM Express
Transit Alstom Citadis tram No. 218 was named after University of Nottingham Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff on December 16, his 74th birthday.
Sir Martyn is known worldwide, not only for his pioneering scientific work in ‘green’ and sustainable chemistry, but also for making science fun through online videos. “Even though my career and passion for communicating science has taken me all over the world, Nottingham will always be home, so this honour is really very special,” said Sir Martyn.
A cat familiar to users of the system has also been honoured with a memorial at his local tram stop. Until his death last summer,
Benton was often to be found greeting passengers at Inham Road.
