Contract awarded for Mk.4 SDO system

TRANSPORT for Wales has awarded DSB ESG a contract to design and install a manual Selective Door Operation (SDO) system for its fleet of seven Mk.4 rakes of coaches.

The sets will be fitted with equipment which allows train crew to control door release on a doorby-door basis for serving stations with shorter platforms.

It is the second recent contract related to the fleet to be won by DSB

ESG. The firm is currently working on modifications to enable the stock to be operated by Class 67 locomotives and driving van trailers. Four rakes have so far been modified and completion of all seven is expected before Easter this year.

Work to install SDO will begin in July and is scheduled for completion in time for the introduction of the December 2022 timetable, when four of the five-coach sets are due to enter service between Swansea and Manchester.
