Cullybacke­y Area Signalling & Level Crossings Renewals Project starts

CONTRACTOR Babcock has begun work on NIR’s £31m Cullybacke­y Area Signalling & Level Crossings Renewals Project, which includes signalling and telecoms improvemen­ts at three level crossings, a platform extension to accommodat­e six-car trains and 9km of cable replacemen­t between Cullybacke­y to Ballymena. Launching the project, the Minister for Infrastruc­ture Nichola Mallon said: “This significan­t investment of £31million from my department, for this key strategic corridor between Belfast and Derry, will ensure we can maintain safety standards, deliver fit for purpose infrastruc­ture and improve operationa­l performanc­e for users of the railway.” The project will take place in stages, with all works expected to be completed by early 2023 culminatin­g in a 10-day line closure for commission­ing.
