Cullybackey Area Signalling & Level Crossings Renewals Project starts
CONTRACTOR Babcock has begun work on NIR’s £31m Cullybackey Area Signalling & Level Crossings Renewals Project, which includes signalling and telecoms improvements at three level crossings, a platform extension to accommodate six-car trains and 9km of cable replacement between Cullybackey to Ballymena. Launching the project, the Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon said: “This significant investment of £31million from my department, for this key strategic corridor between Belfast and Derry, will ensure we can maintain safety standards, deliver fit for purpose infrastructure and improve operational performance for users of the railway.” The project will take place in stages, with all works expected to be completed by early 2023 culminating in a 10-day line closure for commissioning.
