Ground-source energy trial begins
A CONSTRUCTION site office for the HS2 station at Euston will be used to test a groundsource energy system for heating and hot water.
Hollow tube bores, which form part of the building’s foundations, are driven to a depth of up to 25 metres. Water is circulated through pipes inside them to be warmed by heat which occurs in the earth’s shallow subsurface.
Engineers are investigating the possibility of incorporating the technology into Euston and Curzon Street stations, reducing running costs and their carbon footprints.
