Revised plans submitted for Automated People Mover

-

PLANS for an Automated People Mover (APM) that will link the HS2 Interchange station at Solihull with the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham International station and Birmingham Airport have been submitted to Solihull Council.

Since approval was gained under Schedule 17 of the High Speed Rail (LondonWest Midlands) Act in August 2020, extra elements have been added to the proposals, including an option to modify the APM route to be part of a proposed integrated transport exchange for Birmingham International station.

HS2 says the realignment would support plans for new developments on adjacent land and integrate the APM stop into public space, which could include artwork and a green wall of climbing plants.

Taking six minutes to complete the entire 2.3 kilometres (1.4 miles), the APM will have the capacity for more than 2000 passengers in each direction per hour, travelling on a viaduct that will cross the M42, Pendigo Lake and the West Coast Main Line.
