‘A4’ celebrates preservation milestone

-

TO celebrate the 55th anniversary of the handing over of No. 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley from British Railways to the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust (SNGLT), a members’ day was held at Locomotive Services Limited’s Crewe depot on February 12.

SNGT members had the opportunity to photograph the ‘Streak’ and visit the footplate during a guided tour. On January 31, No. 4498 underwent a new hydraulic boiler test, resetting its boiler certificate. The 4-6-2 is expected to be run-in at the Severn Valley Railway in the coming weeks.

When the ‘A4’ returns to the main line, Locomotive Services (TOC) Ltd will be responsible for the loco’s operations, supported by SNGLT.
