Blue Peter boiler progress
WORK to return ‘A2’ Pacific
No. 60532 Blue Peter to action at Crewe is set to ramp up following the completion of No. 70000 Britannia – with efforts being directed on the boiler.
With the new inner firebox now in its final position, work is being undertaken to fix it in place. Boilersmiths have started the long task of reaming and tapping almost 2500 stay holes, which are being marked and measured ready for ordering. These will be produced in-house at LNWR Heritage.
Inside the barrel, the inner pipework has been replaced and the new transverse stays have been fitted. Crown stays are due to be ordered and then the boiler will be turned to fit the remaining stays to finish off the internal work.
