First wheels cast for ‘B17’
THE casting of the 6ft 8ins driving wheels for new-build LNER ‘B17’ 4-6-0 No. 61673 Spirit of Sandringham got underway at William Cook Cast Products in Sheffield on January 19. The wooden wheel pattern was kindly loaned by the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust. Builders the B17 Steam Locomotive Trust has also confirmed that the order for the tyres is being raised with South Devon Railway Engineering. Final designs for the plain axles and crank axle are being discussed.
