■ AT the beginning of February, Mountsorre­l and Rothley Community Heritage Centre was close to reaching its £14,000 funding target (a supporter is match-funding money raised up to £7000) to build a 28 square metre workshop extension to house the narrow gauge locos at the site.

The extension will be a significan­t step towards introducin­g passenger rides. Track alteration­s are in progress to create space for the workshop extension and new station.

■ The temporary exhibition in the Narrow Gauge

Railway Museum at Talyllyn Railway’s Tywyn Wharf station for 2022 marks the effective end of peat harvesting operations served by the Bord na Mona railway network in Ireland.

The exhibition includes the story of three Barclay 0-4-0WTs built for Bord na Mona, one of which (No. LM43) formed the basis of Talyllyn Railway’s 0-4-2T
