TfW pilot scheme for convenienc­e store ticket sales

TRANSPORT for Wales (TfW) began a pilot a scheme from January 24 whereby convenienc­e stores, butchers, petrol stations and even a fish bar will sell rail tickets at 90 locations within the South Wales Metro area.

The retailers will also offer the option of purchase for cash if the local station is unstaffed or has a card-only self-service machine. The facility has been rolled out after an initial trial in five shops.

TfW is the first train operating company to partner with Payzone

(owned by the Post Office) to make the purchasing of rail tickets possible through their instore Payzone devices using SilverRail retailing technology.

Although the range of tickets offered will be limited, it includes Anytime Day singles and returns, Small Group Day singles and returns and Advance Singles.
