LAST month’s photo by Chris Milner (right) shows the former corporate headquarters in central London of Canada’s Grand Trunk Railway.

The GTR was formed in 1852 to connect Montreal and Toronto, but expanded across the country’s eastern provinces and over the border into the USA’s north-eastern states.

The company went bust in 1923 and was absorbed into the state-owned Canadian National Railway.
