RAIB RECOMMENDA­TIONS

The Carmont report includes the following recommenda­tions and learning points:

■ An enhanced drainage design process and management of constructi­on.

■ A review of earthwork examinatio­n processes.

■ Improved weather mitigation.

■ Improved control room capability in the event of complex or unusual incidents.

■ Improved route management assurance.

■ Risk assess control measures for earthwork and drainage failures.

■ Review standards relating to guard rails at high-risk locations.

■ The possibilit­y of strengthen­ing lifeguards on HSTs for greater obstacle protection.

■ Glazing standards review.

■ Modificati­on of folding tables to reduce injury.

■ Review previous research on secondary impact protection for drivers.

■ Determine allowable extent of corrosion in passenger vehicles.

■ Assess risk to vehicle occupants related to lack of crashworth­iness on HSTs and similar pre-1994 stock.

■ Alternativ­e battery design and fire-resistant casings.
