Vintage MER Trailer to be restored
VOLUNTEERS will restore 1893-built Manx Electric Railway (MER) Trailer No. 50 jointly with Isle of Man Transport staff. The vehicle was last used in 1978. This is the latest in a series of projects whereby volunteers have become involved in restoration of MER stock which had been unused for many years. Restoration will be undertaken in the volunteers’ base in Laxey MER Car Shed. The trailer will be completed in a green and white livery, this vehicle being one of only three trailers to receive this livery following nationalisation of the MER in 1957.
